I've also proposed a similar system before (see 
http://christianoss.org/blog/2009/08/19/linux-server-distribution-churches for 
my idea), but unfortunately I don't have the time to work on it personally, so 
it never got anywhere.

There's a guy in the OpenLP community that is putting together a live cd based 
on Ubuntu or Kubuntu with OpenLP on it, so that you can have a boot-and-go 
projection system.
