[Linux4christians] Hardware question

If I may interrupt the theological storm brewing :-) and ask something about
computers... I wonder if anyone here can help me with a hardware problem?

I took on the job of running my small church's sound system last year, and
in addition to the mixer there is also an overhead projector, NEC VT-460, on
the ceiling about 50 feet away from the old PC in the sound booth. For
reasons that escape me, the people who installed all this chose to connect
the projector to the PC by way of a homemade cable that is a hybrid of
ethernet and VGA -- a VGA connector plugs in to the projector on one end and
an ethernet cable on the other that goes through the ceiling and comes out
at my feet where it transforms once again back to VGA to plug into the PC's
dual-head video card.

Not surprisingly, this homemade cable gives us endless problems because the
solder job was not very strong and it almost seems like every time the wind
blows one or two wires break loose from the solder joints. So our pastor
charged me with the task of finding a better cable.

Since the existing cable is nonstandard, I can't just get an exact
replacement (nor would I want to!) According to the user manual at NEC (link
here<http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CDQQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.necvisualsystems.com%2Fdocuments%2Fusermanuals%2Fvt460_560_660usermanual.pdf&ei=NM00TPfmEoGClAf2yfXUBw&usg=AFQjCNEKJi-9sjB_BBQJuKM69pCmKDngZg&sig2=39XUyF5M5dOQ32g0NdQBvg>),
it needs a "commercially available distribution amplifier". I don't even
know what that means! Can someone help me locate the correct cable for
this? If I understand the diagram correctly, it needs to be VGA male on
both ends of the cable. What do the rest of y'all use for ceiling-mounted
projectors?

PS - while I was writing the above, a sales rep from cablesnmor.com wrote me
to say that I don't need an amplifier for distances less than 200 feet, so
this may be easier than I thought depending on the responses I get in this
thread.

Shalom,
