If one has a mere couple of years of Greek and Hebrew and
claims a superior capacity to translate - *Who* is arrogant?

I have no quarrel if one is representing a view they have
studied in a language matched to a culture with which they
are intimately familiar.
What I said was that to pretend that a casual "tourist"
acquaintance with Greek or Hebrew, let alone the historic
and cultural nuances (the training of one whom God has
called and equipped for the work of translation), qualifies
one to quibble with one anointed by God for the work of
translation sure sounds improbable to me.

See above.

So have I - and when they tried to declare knowledge
superior to the God-anointed translators they promulgated
error. Always.

I am happy to hear from someone who begins with a
translation made by men God whom has called (and equipped)
to do so - who then *within their knowledge-base* (real, not
claimed) debate the meaning or application. I do this myself.
I am as frightened by the assertions of unqualified men to
challenge translators as I am by the declarations I have
heard from folks associated with some of the Charismatic and
Pentecostal streams "I have a Word from God for you." No
you don't, you just think that you do. God will *always*
speak directly to me and affirm it via someone in whom I
have cause to have Biblical confidence, not some
uncredentialed stranger ("uncredentialed" because I know
little or nothing of their knowledge of and their personal
walk with Christ and have no cause to trust them), nor in
someone who is telling me something I know to contradict the
Word of God.
Christendom is filled with dead and dying fellowships led by
men who imagine themselves more clever than they are,
humility-challenged, unteachable, and prone to private
doctrines which they impose upon others who trust them.
I heard today that dozens, if not hundreds, of fellowships
in Tennessee alone are closing and giving away their
buildings - collapsing due to conflict or disinterest.
It appears that you missed my point - see above - it is too
late to engage this in detail now. Perhaps tomorrow.
