Well, the problem is that even by Augustine's day the political mixing of
Roman culture with Christianity had set in. Add to that the integration of
the Greek mindset via Origen et al and there were already significant
issues. I love Augustine's testimony and appreciate his genuine love for
God, but I also believe his outlook was too Hellenistic.
