*Saturday – Read John 10*

	*Commentary*

Jesus explains Himself using the concept of a Good
Shepherd, one who cares, shares,
sacrifices, and defends. He reminds them that He has the
authority to “lay down His life”
for them, that He will “take it back again”, and those for
whom He will sacrifice-to-save
	are not only Jews.

At the Feast of Dedication the religious leaders challenge
Him to say that He is the
Messiah, a trap they imagine will convict Him, but Jesus
again points out that He has
already fulfilled many prophesies and done many miracles
and had spoken what needed
to be spoken – sufficient to be recognized by those open to
truth – unlike them.

In verse 10:30 Jesus declares again His divinity “The
Father and I are One.”, not merely
because they are in intimate fellowship and agreement, but
One in essence. The religious
leaders knew what He intended (verse 10:30b) and “took up
rocks to stone Him”. In verses
10:34-39 Jesus reminds them that religious judges often
were treated as “gods” because
they spoke for God in matters of justice, since He was the
Messiah why would He not be
justified to accept a more elevated version of the same title?

Jesus then escaped from them and moved on to where John
baptized. There He accepted
the worship of believers and many new people
surrendered-for-salvation.

*Discussion & Reflection - Keeping it Real*

Reflect upon the notion of God, in the form of Jesus, as a
shepherd to us, His sheep.
God cares, shares, protects, sacrifices, and defends us.

Ponder this: Are we as willing to lay down our lives for
Jesus as He was for us?

	*Truth in Action*

Today I choose to take some time to celebrate the many ways
that Jesus has been my
shepherd; caring, sharing, protecting, sacrificing, and
defending me. I will tell those
	stories to someone.

	*Be Specific*
