*Friday – Read Luke 11-12:12*
*Commentary*
Jesus was praying and His disciples asked Him for guidance
as to their prayers. He offered
them a brief outline then followed with an encouragement to
pray with assertiveness.
Verses 11:6 and 11:13 indicate ones prayer requests must
be for good as defined by God.
Jesus is again accused of fighting demons as a fellow demon
to which He replies that He
overpowers them with “... the finger of God” and that when
He does so the Kingdom of
God is already present – having invaded the temporary realm
of Satan as the Prince of
this world. He also reminds them that there are only two
sides in the spiritual battle –
and He is the stronger One who wins and Who captures what
the enemy once claimed as
his.
Jesus reminds that merely casting out a demon is
insufficient as he will return with more,
one must welcome God to fill the spiritual vacuum. In
11:27-28 He clarifies this with an
instruction to hear the Word of God and to obey it.
Jesus again prophesies His Jonah-like death and
resurrection, then reminds that when
Solomon was king the “Queen of Sheeba” traveled a long way
for God's wisdom and even
Ninevah repented when confronted with truth – their
testimony will be contrasted with
those who reject Jesus.
Jesus reminds that physical and spiritual light are to be
shared -- then He challenges the
religious leaders – informing them that God would hold them
accountable for killing and
persecuting the prophets in the past because they now claim
to speak for God yet reject
Jesus.
In 12:1-12 Jesus warns his disciples to fear God and not
man, to realize that they are
highly valued by God, that a persistent rejection of Jesus
blasphemes the testimony of
Lordship and salvation from the Holy Spirit and guarantees
Hell, and finally to allow the
Holy Spirit to give them strength and wisdom when
confronted by the corrupt religious
leaders.
*Discussion & Reflection - Keeping it Real*
Reflect upon the prayers you raise to God. Do they reflect
the prayer-content and
priorities of Jesus?
Do we pursue truth like the Queen and respond to truth like
the Ninevites?
*Truth in Action*
Today I will pray like Jesus, seek a hard answer, and
respond appropriately. I choose to
make my prayer genuine and risky and to exercise maximum
faith when God answers.
*Be Specific*
