*Tuesday – Read John 9*

	*Commentary*

Jesus heals the blindness of one born blind so as to create
another teachable moment.

First He addresses the question “... who committed the sin
that caused him to be born blind
...”, explaining that the man had been allowed to be born
blind so that God could now use
his healing for a greater good. [Note that this does not
say that God caused his blindness.]

Also, note that this does not affirm the incorrect
religious tradition of that time which
attributed such maladies to the parents or to the man (the
latter obviously foolish since he
	was “born blind”).

The religious leaders doubted the healed man's story and
wanted to know of the “sinful”
man who healed in despite their man-made rules about the
Sabbath. The blind man
replied that God does not empower sinners and that he was
blind and now he could see
therefore he was not sure how Jesus could be a sinner.

The blind man believed-for-salvation in Jesus then the
Pharisees heard Jesus describe His
ministry as bringing sight to the blind and, rhetorically,
blindness to those who claimed
sight. Some Pharisees objected and Jesus reminded them
that their claim to “see” made
	them guilty without redemption.

Note that verses 9:38-39a are in doubt by Biblical
scholars, therefore we will not add it to
the many other decisive texts testifying to the divinity of
Jesus.

*Discussion & Reflection - Keeping it Real*

Have you heard people suggest that a congenital condition
is somehow God's punishment
for someone's specific sin? (Consider reading the Studies
for Genesis 1-4 for a perspective
of the curse of the Fall which impacts all of Creation
equally.)

Do you know someone who has heard of Jesus, and who claims
to “see” truth, but who has
as-of-yet failed to surrender to His Lordship-for-salvation?

	*Truth in Action*

Today I will pray for someone who has heard of Jesus and
who claims to “see” truth but
who has as-of-yet failed to surrender to His
Lordship-for-salvation. As is appropriate I
will remind them that Jesus says their
knowledge-plus-rebellion seals their fate.

	*Be Specific*
