"Lifted up" has a narrow Biblical meaning - you are adding
meaning beyond the intent or the context.
Jesus is GOD therefore is worthy of being "lifted up" as a
symbol of GOD *but* because HE is also GOD HE is worthy of
direct worship.
A *symbol* of worship is never itself worshiped or else it
becomes an idol - a false representation of GOD.
One may "lift up" hands in worship, a symbol of my
submission to or love for GOD, my hands do not become worthy
of worship nor does my "lifting them up" make them idols.
In some cults one may see false leaders present themselves,
or objects they have touched, be promoted as worthy of
worship - this is not a Biblical.
Does any of this help to better describe the difference?
