Webster's says "universal."

Please notice when Paul wrote to the churches that were at Galatia, Rome, Thessalonica, Colosse, and all the other church letters that were addressed in like manner as the aforementioned. Each church was a local church. The universal idea of church came in existence only with the catholic church.
