Integrated Study of The Gospels
Matthew-Mark-Luke-John
Parallel In Chronological Order
Bible Study - Commentary - Devotional

*The Gospels – Section 5*

*Context for the Section Five of The Gospels*

Section five covers Luke 8, Matthew 13, Mark 4-5, and
Matthew 8:14-34
(ordered chronologically as are all of our Studies). These texts
continue His pattern of miracles and of teaching; he uses
many parables
and explains their vexing purpose.

*Sunday - Read Luke 8:1-3*

*Commentary*

Jesus traveled through towns (cities) and villages “...
preaching and
proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.”
“Preaching” is more
about telling and explaining, “proclaiming” is more about
prophesying
and exclaiming. [Note: We have elsewhere discussed that
“prophesy” is
90% re-telling and 10% fore-telling.]

Jesus traveled with an entourage that would have been
somewhat counter-
cultural to the male-biased culture of His day, the twelve
Apostles and
others, including “... some women ...”. The Apostles had
been called by
Him, one woman had been healed by Him and other men and
women with access
to significant financial resources from which they supported
His ministry.

While it is not unusual for a traveling army to be
accompanied by civilians,
including wives and others, the presence of women and the
repeated reference
to them as by Jesus - and later Paul - as significant
elements of the ministry
was unusual.

*Daily Reflections & Actions (devotions)*
*to improve memory & intentional daily living*

*Sunday - Read Luke 8:1-3*

*Reflection*

Do we emulate Jesus by both telling and explaining His-story?

Do we emulate Jesus as leaders, discerning whom God has sent
as our students,
those He calls us to prepare so they may go forth and tell
His-story and to
minister in His name?

Do we emulate Jesus and honor women as well as men in their
calling to serve Him?

*Action*

Today I will choose an electronic or in-person format to
tell someone about the
good news of Jesus. I will take the time to explain it well.
It may be on a chat
site, a text message, an E-mail, a phone call from a sales
person, someone met
in a store or school or elsewhere – wherever the opportunity
to share presents.
I will ask someone to pray in agreement with me for courage
and wisdom and then
share what happens with them.

*Be Specific*
