They were told by Acer that if they had loaded any software that did not come with the machine, that the warranty was/would be voided. I believe that they got rid of the machines after that incident, and got different ones. Maybe Acer has changed their policy in the last 16-17 years, but I've never bought one after that. 

  That seems odd.  I picked up an Acer Laptop for my daughter, loaded on
the requisite AV and such dross, and added OpenOffice.  I am not aware
that I voided my my waranty, and that doesn't seem reasonable to sell a
system and tell the buyer, "oh, BTW put an app on this, and your
warranty is void".
