[Linux4christians] Free Software is not about free software WAS Weighing In on the Freespire Debate

I think that the comments about attractiveness/usability may have been true
a few years ago, but I think that there has been a huge amount of work in
the last few years to make the Linux desktop more attractive and more
usable. The GNOME camp especially has focused on usability, to great effect
(IMHO).

Software-wise, I think that there are equal numbers of good and badly
designed software on both sides of the oss/proprietary divide. The
Interface Hall of Shame
(http://homepage.mac.com/bradster/iarchitect/shame.htm) is a little dated,
but still very relevant. To cite a more recent application divide, the use
of collapsing menus in Windows, whereby only the most recently used options
are show, is generally regarded by HCI/usability experts as a very bad
thing, because spatial awareness is very important for people to remember
how to do things.
