I generally agree with a Rob but at the risk of
violating my own warning to "not put to fine a
point on it" I'd like to offer additional guidance.
It used to be that most in the USA claimed to be
Christian or were strongly influenced by Christian
teachings in school, home, and the general society.
In other countries this varies and I will leave it
to others to describe their local histories.
We now live in a USA culture that is infested with
demonism, witchcraft, and all manner of cults and
"other gods".
Syncretism is common in the church and goes far
beyond low-level superstition and magic amulets
such as praying to statues of man-ordained "saints",
hanging "dream catchers" on rear view mirrors, or
magic crystals.
We will deal with many in our churches who have
significant experiences in the occult, especially
witchcraft. Witchcraft is now mainstream and is
commonly woven into public school curriculum,
television, games, cartoons, and Internet content.
For those who accept this they are unteachable --
for those escaping bondage to the occult every
reminder is a serious stumbling block.
Again, Paul's teaching on "eating of meat" applies.
One must know one's audience before one teaches.
