I'll have to let Chris or one of the more experienced guys answer that one.
On a basic level, you can either use SQLite for a "stand-alone" type setup,
or install MySQL for the network functionality.  MySQL is so easy, even I
can set it up and get it running on a basic level rather quickly.  I'll
leave the rest for the more experienced Lyricue disciples ('gurus' sounds
funny on a Christian list).
