[Linux4christians] Setting up Squid on Kubuntu

Okay - thanks everyone for their advice so far. I'm looking into
getting a cheap barebones system for the sole purpose of acting as a
proxy to about six computers (only four of which will ever be used at
the same time). What kind of hardware specs am I looking for to get a
system like this as cheaply as possible? It will obviously need to run
24/7 for months on end, and I'll want a desktop environment for it just
in case I ever actually have to use it for anything else. Usually its
only task will be to act as a proxy. I'd like it to run cool and
*quiet*. It doesn't have to be all that fast since the load should
typically be fairly low.

Any ideas on what CPU or RAM requirements would be for this purpose?
And what's the cheapest (reliable) motherboard anyone would recommend
for a low-spec box like this?

Thanks in advance,

Matthew
