Yes, I agree.  I run a debian server on a sparcstation.  I *never* have 
any problems with it, and the OS footprint is very small.  I also run 
many servers with Slackware.  The OS footprint is bigger (I usually tell 
people to install everything), but the performance is rock solid stable 
until your hardware dies.  Lastly I have been running NetBSD servers for 
many years as well and that is fantastic for everything except mysql/php 
(because of a long install for those).  But again, once it's running you 
should never have to touch it.
