And yet many have requested that Linc setup forums. That's a "reason" as
well. There's no need to get upset about trying a new technology.

Personally, I prefer forums as they tend to be a lot more focused on the
topic at hand. Email lists tend to accidentally break up into tons of little
threads (I have no less than four unread threads on LXer's Net Neutrality
article in my inbox!), all which become difficult to read and correlate.
They also demand a lot more up-front attention. Anyone who joins the
conversation late might as well not join it at all. The thread has already
been archived or deleted for most readers.

Also, modern forums allow for many of the same advantages as email lists.
For example, someone mentioned that he likes being able to see which
messages are new. If you log into the forum, you'll find a link titled "Show
unread posts since last
visit.<http://linc.homeunix.org:8080/board/index.php?action=unread>
"

Are forums a new idea? Something we've never tried? A tool that we've never

Why so hostile?

Unless there was a previous attempt that I'm unaware of, forums are a new
idea for L4C. Let's see where they lead.

Might it not be in danger of diluting the already very small community we

Unless I'm greatly mistaken, everyone here is devout Christian who came here
because they wish to get involved in technology in some fashion or another.
If the community can't stand behind Linc as he works hard to improve the
community, then it's not much of a community. Patience and Longsuffering are
fruits of the spirit, and are not required in any great quantity here. Let's
allow Linc to do his work, and keep a positive attitude toward the process.

the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus" --Romans 15:5
