You are stereotyping 'the Linux/OSS community' by using THEY to refer to
all of US then defining us this way. I am offended by said stereotype
as part of said community. This whole thread is me trying to point out
that many people have BIG MISCONCEPTIONS about Linux and OSS.
I have been a new user to DOS, Windows and Linux and learning can be
very frustrating. But you can stereotype anyone to make a point and it
becomes tempting to do so when frustrated. HOw about this:
* My "they" reference is to those who join the continuing chorus of
"hate MS/love APPLE/everyone should switch". For the average PC user,
there is nothing to switch to. IMO, APPLE still requires too high a
PRICE for entry.
* My "they" reference is to those who join the continuing chorus of
"hate UNIX/love MICROSOFT/everyone should switch". For the average
MAINFRAME user, there is nothing to switch to. IMO, MICROSOFT still
requires too high a MAINTENANCE COST for entry.
* My "they" reference is to those who join the continuing chorus of
"hate LINUX/love BSD/everyone should switch". For the average SYSADMIN,
there is nothing to switch to. IMO, LINUX still requires too MANY ADDED
TWEAKS AFTER INSTALL for entry.
