It is also important to recognize that, especially in FOSS / Linux

Very significant point in my view. When serious contributions are made
to the FOSS community in the name of Mashiach it will have a great
impact. When that is not possible a trustworthy expression of WHO you
are on the net via a web site etc. is pretty important.

I have found that it is very easy for individuals to presents hard nose
alter ego images of themselves on line. The anonymity of the internet is
really a significant component of understanding that the image being
presented to you may not be who that person "really" is.
I frequent Linux and Open Source artistic BBs often. Some of the hardest
and most aggressive anti-Christians are often expressing suicide as an
option. Never have I have had a negative response from anyone when I
have responded publicly in the Lord's love to such desperate cases.
Gentle wisdom turns away wrath. Mostly there has been an ominous
silence, an occasional "Amen", or a private message of thanks.
Being sensitive and non-reactionary are very good tools.
