Hi Everyone!
Sorry I haven't been around much lately - lots going on...
Anyway This is a message to apologise to you all for being a slacking admin
here :-) There have been some problems here with the mailing list and I
just went through all the configurations again to (hopefully) clear them all
up.. Evidently we were having problems sending mail to some of you.
Everything should work fine now. I hope to be hearing from all of you soon!
On another note I was just reading about a project one of you had to use
Linux for the lyrics and/or music on a projector (sorry, but it escapes me
who it was right at the moment). I wanted to do the same thing a while back
and the idea I came up with was to use html and just have it accessable as a
web page. Web pages are easilly indexable, display quickly, and believe it
or not, you can many times find your lyrics on the web already (just cut and
paste!). As far as displaying the lyrics on one screen and music on
another, that's the wonderful thing about X - it's completely portable..
Just run a dummy X server on a small box at the piano/organ, and push your
content from the other machine (or visa versa)..
One of my dream projects was to hook up a podeum in this manner.. Small
monitor or LCD in the podeum running off a Linux box that held sermons,
music, notes, bulletins, etc.. right there at your fingertips (touchpad
maybe?) where you had quick and easy control over all your resources. In
fact, a while back I had occasion to actually play hymns from my laptop
since there was no organist available.. It was a great idea that worked
quite well. Hey, who says you can't be a high-tech Christian?
