It is not exactly portable, but I love our Infocast Insignia (aka Chumby) 8". Using
http://www.instructables.com/id/Cheap-touchpad/, I made sort of an ipad clone and it runs Linux!! I control all the home automation from it and it is great for accessing our intranet based web server from the kitchen to access recipes and other stuff (
http://www.instructables.com/id/Uses-fo ... ate-cloud/). Becoming addicted to php and mysql. May get a second one for a low powered server like I used to do with the Cisco Linksys Nslu2. Can not wait to see how well it works with mythwebtv. Need to build a new server first. 64bit here we come.

Thanx for the kudos!! The touchpads are the new thin clients. Happy to share what little I know. My brother wanted to me get a color nook and do a rooting Instructable about it, but I could not see spending up to $250 on something that could be obsolete very soon.
Developing my own web app to download and or just display pdf files. remotely. Great for kiosk access also.
