Awesome awesome show last night!!!

Postby eddie » Thu Jan 27, 2011 10:21 am

Really liked the show last night. I had to listen to the ogg since I did not wake up till after the show was over. I really wanted to get into the irc discussion. oh well.. Missed the "Make:" Live show also.

Super Thanx to Rich for all the work he has done on the Pogoplug. The community needs more people like him.
Both the Nslu2 and the Pogoplug are awesome, but do not forget about the Chumby also.

Yes, Firefly works with Rhythmbox. I run mt-daapd aka firefly on my p2 server. It is awesome. The project has also been forked, With the appropriate codecs installed, it will play the most popular formats. Xbmc works with it too. Use to run firefly on the nslu2 using Debian also.

To the person known as BillyCrook, I hoped what he said was said in jest. Everything has value even though you may think it does not. It is not what you use, it is how you use it. I still use p1's for various projects. Hope to have them working on earth batteries soon, so the argument for power costs is null. Upgrading my old p2 to U10.04. I hope it survives the reboot. (it's backed up).

As for micro-controllers, the stamp, arduino, and the rest are awesome. The parallax propeller leaves the arduino in the dust and it is coming out in a new format. The dip version is history. The new Ti 430 microcontroller also looks neat. You can get one on a board for under five dollars.

Being Italian (Sicilian), I love pizza. homemade pizza is the best. The nickname for deep dish pizza escapes me for the moment. Actually I prefer Foccacia which is a bit thicker bread wise than real pizza. Some of that so-called pizza with the thin crust is called ragbread where my ancestors came from. Will eat it if I have too, but usually avoid it. My first job was in a real pizzaria. I will always treasure that job.

Lastly thanks to all the people who have donated their precious time to make broadcasts for HPR.

Note: If you are into electronics
http://www.instructables.com is having a micro-controller project contest.
There is also a 555/556 (timer) project contest at http://www.555contest.com/

Thanks for the feedback Eddie, I have passed this on to Richard. I would love to see more guests like him on the show and hopefully they will stand up and be counted!

Here is the write up for deep dish or Chicago Style Pizza: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_dish_pizza

Thanks, I am sure there are lots of people with much better Pogoplug hacking skills out there!

Here is a link to my blog for the notes I used on the show.

Pogoplug Infant Mortality

Postby richardhughes » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:52 pm

My pogoplug died this past week, as was the previous death, it was a bad power supply.

They were great and replaced it immediately!

After nine months of service, the replacement died of the same causes.

This time no replacement! :(

Here is my blog posting about it.

They offered to let me pay $8.00 more directly to them for a brand new Pogoplug PRO :(

Sorry to hear that. One would think you could take a better grade Walwart or a used laptop type supply and adapt it. Professional resale stores like Goodwill always has stuff dirt cheap that will yield it's weight in gold.

Was that close to getting one. Just bought a Chumby with the 8 inch screen (aka insignia infocast for $67) so there was no way to bring home the pogoplug. As for the Pogoplug, the software is definitely open but the hardware is not. No off the shelf generic replacement of parts per se. Oh well, there is starting to be so much competition, some nice alternatives now.
